Special Needs

Emergency Management (along with the other Health and Human Services agencies in our area) is extremely concerned with the Special Needs population in our region. During a disaster many unique problems may be encountered by this population, therefore it is important to us to identify these individuals (in advance of an emergency) so that we may better plan and provide for their needs.

A Special Needs Registry is being developed for Spartanburg County.  If you have a mental or physical impairment and your level of care would go beyond the normal first aid level found in a public shelter, then you should be in our registry. In case of a disaster, we want to know how to locate you and what type of care you would need. Examples would include impaired mobility, impaired eyesight, dialysis, or any other limiting condition, such as oxygen dependency, feeding tube, etc. You are welcome to register if you are elderly, living alone and would like to be checked on during a disaster. This is confidential information and will be shared only with agencies to aid in assisting you should you need it.

Our elderly population is vulnerable in multiple areas and we have offered links to information which we hope will provide beneficial information. Your local Emergency Management office is available to speak to special needs support groups and/or elderly groups on a variety of safety topics. Please contact us at 864-595-5365 if we can be of any assistance.
